Cochran County Jail Overview
Cochran County Jail is operated by the Cochran County Sheriff's Office. The facility type is county jail, meaning it holds local pretrial detainees, local misdemeanor and felony defendants, short county sentences, paper-ready state inmates when present, and occasional holds or release-status entries shown through roster tabs. It is the only detention facility inside Cochran County resolved by the facility map for this project.
The jail facility address is 216 W. Lafayette Avenue, Morton, TX 79346. The Sheriff's administrative office is separately listed by the county at Room B-7 of the Cochran County Courthouse, 100 North Main Street, Morton, TX 79346. The official county Sheriff page lists Sheriff Joseph Guerra, phone 806-266-5211, fax 806-266-8888, jguerra@co.cochran.tx.us, and open-records email Sheriff@co.cochran.tx.us. Use the facility address for jail location and the courthouse office for administrative or records contact as directed by staff.
Cochran County Jail Population
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards population reports are the source for official capacity and report counts. The TCJS June 1, 2026 Cochran row reports 13 rated beds and a total jail population of 2. It also reports 0 federal inmates, 0 contract inmates, 0 out-of-state contract inmates, and 0 housed elsewhere. The county roster should still be used for a live name lookup because TCJS rows are population reports rather than a person-by-person booking list.
Recent parsed TCJS rows showed small monthly totals such as 5, 5, 2, 3, and 2 in early 2026 report rows. Treat those as official report snapshots, not a live screen. In a 13-bed facility, a one-person change can shift the capacity percentage by about 7.69 percentage points, so dramatic trend language would overstate the data.
Lookup Cochran County Jail Inmates
The correct online lookup for the facility is the Cochran County Jail Report, which is linked from the official Sheriff's page. Current local custody should appear under Current Inmates. Recent bookings and releases may appear under 24 Hours Arrests. Recent older entries can be searched through Inmates by Arrest Date with begin and end dates.
- Open the Cochran County Jail Report from the Sheriff page or direct portal.
- Choose Current Inmates for a person believed to be held now.
- Use 24 Hours Arrests or Inmates by Arrest Date when release or arrest timing is the main clue.
- Search by last name and first name when known.
- Read the public card for status, photo or placeholder, arrest date, agency, charges, and bond.
- If no record appears, call 806-266-5211, use VINELink, or check TDCJ, BOP, or ICE if custody may have changed.

The card view is the main online record for local jail status, charges, bond, and booking-photo availability.

Cochran County Jail Booking
Official facility booking rules were not published as a jail handbook. The public roster still shows the outline of intake. After arrest or warrant service, the person may be brought to the jail, identified, searched under local policy, photographed when appropriate, and entered into the jail record. The public card can show status, photo or placeholder, sex, height, weight, redacted DOB, arrest date, arresting agency, charges, and bond.
Bond may show an amount or status text such as NOT SET, DENIED, or REDACTED. The roster does not show bond type, accepted payment method, magistrate, court date, or release procedure in the inspected template. For bond action, call the jail or court before relying on an online field. For prosecution and court records after the booking, use the District Clerk, County Clerk, Justice of the Peace, DA, or re:SearchTX depending on the case type.

Cochran County Jail Transfers
No TDCJ prison, BOP facility, or ICE detention facility was found inside Cochran County from official locators. That does not mean people from the county never enter those systems. After a felony sentence, a person may remain in county jail briefly while paperwork is completed, then transfer to TDCJ. Federal defendants use the BOP locator. Immigration detainees use ICE ODLS. VINELink can help with custody notification.
The TDCJ inmate search includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility and says the information is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old. BOP locates federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS is separate and does not work like a county jail mugshot list. Use the county roster for Cochran County Jail, then switch systems only when the custody type changes.
About Cochran County Jail
The research did not locate an official construction year, pod layout, ACA accreditation note, jail administrator name, program list, work-release annex, or detailed reentry page for Cochran County Jail. TCJS regulates Texas county jail standards and posts population, jail standards, open-records, death/escape, paper-ready, and immigration-detainer resources at the state level.
No official recent jail litigation, consent decree, DOJ investigation, overcrowding order, closure plan, or jail-construction bond was found in the county materials reviewed. The Sheriff page was modified in 2025 and identifies Sheriff Joseph Guerra. For current jail programs, medical requests, mental-health care, religious services, grievance process, or reentry referrals, ask the Sheriff's Office directly.
Note: Confirm custody and visit rules with the jail before traveling because local schedules were not published online.
